OLD LIBERTY COUNTY JAIL
VISITORS INVITED TO EXPLORE, USE HISTORIC JAIL
The Old Liberty County Jail provides excellent educational opportunities for students on field trips, Scout troops, home-school groups, professional leadership classes, and out-of-town visitors. On several past occasions, the jail has been explored by paranormal investigators and is annually used as the site of a popular haunted house sponsored by a local nonprofit. The building also once served as an art show exhibit venue, and a professional production company shot a short film on site.
We welcome visitors to come enjoy free tours of the jail from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday and Fridays. Additionally, we’re happy to set up tours at other times of the week when scheduling requests are made in advance. The jail is available for rental on a case-by-case basis, but all requests must first go before the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority’s Board of Directors for review and approval. Fees will apply and will be set according to usage purposes.
For more information, please call the HDDA at 912-877-4332 or email programassistant@hinesvilledowntow.com to read up on the jail’s history, download our brochure.
